LOGROS SPP: Recomendaciones al Plan de Acción del Departamento de la Vivienda

En la versión final del Plan de Acción del Departamento de Vivienda, se asume como una prioridad la revitalización de los centros urbanos, al menos en términos de política pública y objetivos estratégicos. Esto es muy importante y aprovechamos para hacer un llamado como planificadores profesionales a seguir insistiendo con este asunto, de manera que se traduzca a la hora de asignar dinero y aprobar proyectos. Adicionalmente, en el Plan de Acción, páginas 46 y 53, se hace mención de algunos de los puntos que más hemos recalcado en este proceso:

«As identified by the Puerto Rican Planning Society using U.S. Census data, there are an estimated 92,629 vacant housing units in the municipios of San Juan, Bayamón, Carolina, Ponce, and Mayagüez alone. The availability of these vacant housing units underscores the importance of the housing choice options that HUD-certified housing counselors will coordinate with impacted individuals by ensuring that residents can access existing units. As outlined in the housing program section later in this plan, rehabilitation and renewal of existing housing units will be a primary course of action for residents who choose to relocate and are in need of new housing.» (Página 46)

«Information submitted by stakeholders in formal written comment by various municipios and nongovernmental organizations provides a glimpse into the need for social interest housing. Proposals submitted by organizations such as Centro Pobre Cristo and the Sociedad Puertorriqueña de Planificación (SPP) speak directly to the need for housing special needs populations. PRDOH received proposals for social interest housing from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and municipios in various regions of the island. These proposals are available in their entirety at www.cdbg-dr.pr.gov. The table below identifies a sample of the need for social interest housing as expressed in the proposals received by PRDOH.» (Página 53)
